Podcast 017Brand new podcast! I had a woman write in looking for help in her life. Here’s what she said:

“At 42, I feel I'm on the verge of good things, finally discovering the true me, ditching the people pleasing and following the herd, but may be stuck or blocked in some ways and have fears and comfort zones that keep me in the same spot.”

The first part of the episode I talk about a very important aspect of this short email she sent me: The part where she talks about her personal accomplishments. It’s so important for you to celebrate how far you’ve come, even if you don’t think it’s very far. Even if you still feel like you have SO much farther to go!

I also talk about being in transition. All of us go through these times throughout life, some might argue we’re ALWAYS in transition. I give some advice about what to do for yourself in times like this.

Next I move onto the Four Universal Addictions coined by anthropologist Angeles Arian:

  1. The addiction to intensity.
  2. The addiction to perfection.
  3. The addiction to knowledge.
  4. The addiction to focusing on what's not working rather than what is working.

The addiction to knowledge is what I focus on in the podcast. Time and time again, what I learn about life is that the more I surrender to what life brings me, and accept it as it comes, AS IT IS, the more peace I have in my life AND the more I get what I want. For me this is a work in progress and something I have to work on often. But, I will tell you…it’s WORKING. 🙂

I go on to give a few specific exercises to help you in this. As well as some powerful, pondering questions.

Lastly, I talk about comfort zones and fear. It’s my belief that people need to get to a certain tipping point in their life for them to change. I can sit here and tell you ways to look at fear from different angles to learn from it, blah, blah, blah, but really, if you have fear, you have fear. WE ALL DO. But, you have to get to a place where you’re ready to go after what you want and get to what’s on the other side. A place where you know the work is going to be uncomfortable. In other words: You just have to be ready. And it’s really okay if you’re not.
