Amy tells us her background and how she calls herself a “gold star chaser” and how she used to have fantasies of people looking at her, admiring her and asking how she does it all. Basically, she was an approval addict! It was after the sudden death of her mother made her take a look at her own life and make important changes. Amy made the realization that she needed to create an inside that’s so sparkly, that the outside doesn’t matter. – @pearsonamy TWEET THAT!
Amy talks about “The Approval Trap” and what it all comes down to is that we’re all trying to belong. (Right!?) How as women, we create these personas in order to stay safe, but can feel really inauthentic.
I share a personal example of vowing to be so strong in therapy, that I would never cry and how that affected my own approval trap.
Amy talks to us about resentment and how that is a big indicator about living in the approval trap. If you’re blaming others for your unhappiness and trying to control things you can’t, listen up!
We have the discussion about perfectionism and how it all fits in with all this. That trying to be perfect is the way we try to protect ourselves. We also dive into black or white thinking and how that kind of thinking (which btw, SO MANY of us do) is keeping us down (and feeling crazy and exhausted).
Amy talks us about Radical Authenticity, which is the opposite of living in the approval trap. She says, your willingness to get uncomfortable is in direct correlation to your success. – @pearsonamy TWEET THAT!
